Bamboo Grove Beginning

Some years ago a friend gave us a start of black bamboo (Phyllostachys nigra). We planted it and have enjoyed watching it develop into a wonderfully large clump. It rustles and playfully sways in the breeze , powerfully towering over a part of the garden, yet delicately bending with great flexibility.

Sunday we decided to divide about one-third of the mass into smaller pieces in order to begin that about which we have discussed for several years: create a bamboo grove behind our regular garden.

About a hundred feet from the house and behind the tall Tsuga canadensis and White Fir, we now observe these willowy forms dancing in anticipation of the mystical place in which we and the garden animals will roam. A little time is required for it to become what we envision, but the excitement of watching it develop holds much pleasure. We can already see us strolling along those paths in the evenings.

We love looking out over the valley at that which is presented to us, and yesterday, early morning brought this beautiful color and movement.

Morning Glow

An amazing glow has me distracted. . . by this tiny rainbow peaking through the cloud cover and a beautiful morning garden still at rest, but about to emerge.
